Riots First Show Part 2
This was my first quasi -real art show. It was curated by Jeanne Siegel, the chair of the fine arts department.
My last year of SVA was kinda weird. Some of my teachers were a bit perplexed by my work. Looking back, I kinda understand why - imagine these wonderful established painters coming from Robert Rauschenberg & Jasper Johns or trying to give advice to a young woman making quasi - graphic novels about Rock Stars and monsters, and then making sculptures about it! I had a guy jumping out the window of my studio; the front of my studio was an under water fight scene!

"Crash" & the window of my studio back in 2001
So, along came Jeanne Siegel checking out the forth year studios, she liked my work and selected the underwater fight, "Trouble in Shangri-La" as part of a four/five person show at the schools off-site exhibition space, The Visual Arts Gallery, then located on Wooster Street in Soho. (It, like every other gallery has re-located to the super sexy Chelsea neighborhood).
I love Jeanne Siegel.
I love SVA. During undergrad, I had a slew of amazing teachers like Lucio Pozzi, Lynda Benglis, and most of all Suzan Etkin, who changed my life in my third year…
OK, that’s enough back-story, here's pics.
